Subtractive Manufacturing

This project focused on the manufacturing of 5 and 10,000 pieces of a given part. The paper highlights the cost difference between making parts with manual machines versus making parts with a CNC machine.

In short, with small batch production, manual machines tend to be cheaper due to the time and labor taken to set up a CNC machine. With large scale production, the CNC setup is nearly negligible in the total cost, which leads to lower cost per part in the long run.
